Congratulations to ALL of the Award Winners from the
2010 New Jersey State NAACP Awards

“The Woman of Excellence Award” 
“Congratulations to the First Ladies receiving the this prestigious award.”
“2010  Women of Excellence Award” is an award which symbolizes the stellar leadership achieved by their acceptance of the call to enhance the role of women, serve as an advocacy vehicle for issues affecting all people, and share the NAACP’s mission.

“2010 Phenomenal Woman Award” is an award that represents the symbol of a woman who has put her mark on everything she does – the mark of excellence.  This award tells all who see and read it that you are a woman who is confident, steadfast, and committed to empowering other women. A Phenomenal Woman always follows her heart to inspire and be inspired – regardless of what others may think or say.



“Distinguished Legislator Award”
“Congratulations to New Jersey Speaker of the Assembly, Assemblywoman Sheila Y. Oliver; Senator Sandra B. Cunningham; State Attorney General Paula T. Dow; Assemblywoman Elease Evans; Senator Nia H. Gill; Esq., Assemblywoman Mila M. Jasey, Assemblywoman Nancy F. Munoz, Assemblywoman Nellie Pou; Assemblywoman Annette Quijano; Assemblywoman Caridad Rodriguez; Senator M. Teresa Ruiz; Assemblywoman L. Grace Spenser; Assemblywoman Cleopatra G. Tucker; Senator Shirley K. Turner and Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman.”

The first Black women to serve in the New Jersey Legislature were devoted members of the NAACP -- the late Assemblywoman Madeline A. Williams (1958 - 1962), the late State Senator Wynona Moore Lipman (1972-1999), and the late Assemblywoman Mildred Barry Garvin (1978-1988). During this convention of honoring women, a major focus will be the “2010 Distinguished Legislator Award,” which will be given to fifteen Black and Latina female legislators who share the NAACP’s vision of making the American Dream a reality not just for New Jersey, but for all people.
